OSCAR Predictions for 2012

OK, I have seen all nine best picture nominees and a few other titles but not all. There are very likely surprises in a couple major categories, and quite possibly one of the most imaginative Oscar telecasts ever. Enjoy!

PICTURE-Argo even though Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty were just as good.

ACTOR-Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln, period.

ACTRESS-Jennifer Lawrence for Silver Linings Playbook but with Emmanuelle Riva in Amour coming on strong.

SUPPORTING ACTOR-This is a three way race: DeNiros comeback role in Silver Linings Playbook, Waltz’s outstanding job in Django Unchained, or Tommy Lee Jones in Lincoln. Jones by a hair.

SUPPORTING ACTRESS-Anne Hathaway in Les Miserables.

DIRECTOR-Steven Spielberg accepts for what should have been Ben Affleck’s award for Argo, the latter was not even nominated! Watch out for David O. Russell for directing all four actors to nominations in Silver Linings Playbook or Ang Lee for filming an unfilmable novel, Life of Pi.

ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY-Zero Dark Thirty unless Tarantino repeats for Django Unchained or more likely, Amour jumps out in front.

ADAPTED SCREENPLAY-Lincoln unless the Argo juggernaut rises.

ANIMATED FEATURE-Wreck-It Ralph

FILM EDITING-Argo

CINEMATOGRAPHY-Life of Pi, but here’s hoping Roger (0 for 10) Deakins triumphs in Skyfall.

PRODUCTION DESIGN-Anna Kerenina but two other period films, Lincoln and Les Miserables may strike.

ORIGINAL SCORE-Life of Pi

ORIGINAL SONG-Skyfall and Adele will have won every major award for her profession.

SOUND EDITING-Zero Dark Thirty although it is a wide open field.

SOUND MIXING-Les Miserables and its non looped singing.

COSTUME DESIGN-Anna Kerenina

MAKEUP & HAIRSTYLING-The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

VISUAL EFFECTS-Life of Pi, sorry Avengers fans.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM-Amour

DOCUMENTARY FEATURE-Searching for Sugar Man

Various SHORTS-who cares?

It could be that no one film garners more than three Oscars! Could be the most double and triple Oscar winners ever!
